Morten Seffrensen

We do not know when Morten Seffrensen was born.  However, a letter from the king (Christian IV) dated June 27, 1603 exempted him from paying “landgilde” (a sort of tax), because he was “herredsfoged”[1] in the Bjerre herred[2]. From this we may guess that he was born around 1565. His parents were Seffen in Nottrupgaard and Berrit Michelsdatter.
He took over the farm Nottrupgaard from his parents together with a farm named Dalsgaard. In the years 1604 to 1657 no taxes were paid for this farm because the owners were “herredsfogeder.”  From accounts it appears that Morten Sorensen (=Morten Seffrensen) was the owner from 1604 to 1646, and that means that he died in 1646. His son Soren Mortensen took over the farm from his father.
