Morten Jorgensen Winther

Morten Jorgensen was born sometime around 1698 in Kleis, in the parish of Raarup. He was called Morten Jorgensen Winther, and he received the Winther name from his mother’s family. His parents were Jorgen Sorensen and Karen Andersdatter Winther.
It is unknown when he married Nille Cathrine Friederichsdatter Glaso, but maybe around 1737. At that time they lived in Blesbjerg in Raarup, but this village does not exist anymore.
Accordingly to a registration statement in the Landsting[1] of Viborg, Morten Jorgensen Winther borrowed 100 “sletdaler” from Jacob Schmidt, who was a druggist in Horsens. The rate of interest was 5%.  That was a high rate because the normal rate was 4%. As security he gave a mortgage of the crop from a farm on Horsens Mark.
Morten Jorgensen Winther was the copyholder of a big farm in Urlev. In the manor archive of Ussinggaard there is a deed from 1753 [look at the scanned text below]. Judging from the deed it appears that Morten Winther in Urlev lived on one of the farms that Bodil Saxe sold to de Lichtenberg in Horsens.
The children of Morten and Nille are mentioned in a document from 1765 about the administration of an estate, as they were heirs instead of their deceased mother. At that time the children were: Jorgen
Mortensen Winther (born about 1738), Hans Friderich Mortensen (born 1743), Karen Mortensdatter (born 1743), Soren Mortensen (born 1749), Anders Mortensen (born 1749), Jens Mortensen (born 1750), Jakob Mortensen (born 1754) and Kirsten Mortensdatter (born 1755).
Morten Jorgensen Winther died on July 23, 1770 at the of age of 74.

[1] A ”Landsting” was a country council, and it was the head office of the jurisdiction. In older times there were three essential “Landsting” in Denmark, and they were placed in Viborg, Ringsted and Lund.
