Jorgen Sorensen

Jorgen Sorensen was born in the parish of Raarup on the farm named Nottrupgaard [1]. The date of his birth is not certain but it is believed that he was born before 1660.  We are not able to know the exact date because the parish church first started keeping records in 1751.  We do know that Jorgen was son of Soren Mortensen.

Jorgen Sorensen was the father of Morten Jorgensen Winther.  We know this to be a fact because of information from the register of deeds, which was dated July 31, 1744.  We also know through the deeds that Jorgen died sometime between 1720 and 1744. Jorgen’s son, Hans Jorgensen died in 1729 and Jorgen Sorensen is not mentioned in the paper from the administration of his estate, so it is presumed that Jorgen may have died before 1729.
Jorgen Sorensen received the deed of his freeholder farm in Kleis in the parish of Raarup in 1686. He had more capital and that is why he was able to loan 460 rix-dollar to his brother Hans Sorensen in Kleis.  The mortgage deed is registered in the Viborg register office and dated in Kleis on Feb. 24, 1689. He had a mortgage on two farms. One was in Kleis and the other in the parish of As. In 1690 (the deed is dated June 28, 1690) he sold the farm that he bought in 1685, to his brother, Hans Sorensen and just like we saw in the mortgage deed from 1689, a third brother is mentioned as witness to the signature, namely Morten Sorensen in Noettrup.
Jorgen Sorensen married Karen Andersdatter Winther in the church of St. Dalby in 1691. Notice that he did not buy a farm at that time.  Instead, in 1690 he sold his farm in Kleis.  Is it possible that Karen was the widow of the owner of a farm in Kleis? But why do they marry then in the church of  St. Dalby? By studying other registration documents something is pointing to the fact that she was a widow from Kleis.
