Ellen
Margrethe Michelsdatter was born in Hedensted in 1740 and christened in the
church of Hedensted on October 23, 1740. Her parents were Michel Knudsen and
Anne Madsdatter.
Her first husband was Jorgen Mortensen Winther whom she married on June 25,
1760. He died in June 1772. She was a widow with six small children - but not
for long. Less than six months
later she married Mads Pedersen Winther from Norre Aldum, They were married on
November 6, 1772 in the church of Urlev. He was born about 1751 and died in
Urlev in 1782. He was buried in the churchyard of Urlev on June 6, 1782.
Ellen Margrethe and Mads Pedersen Winther had four children:
Else Katrine (christened 4/5/1773- died, 1779), Jorgen (christened 2/4/1776),
Peder (christened 7/26/1778) and Else Catrine (christened 9/10/1780).
On November 8, 1782, the same year as Mads PedersenWinther’s died, she married
again. Her third husband, Jorgen Pedersen Winther, was born sometime around
1745. He died on July 31, 1816 in Urlev.
Ellen Margrethe’s first husband was called Winther. The real surname of her
second and third husbands was Pedersen. However, they were called Winther as
well. It is believed that either the men on that farm had always been called
Winther, or because they both belonged to the Winther family. That is not
unthinkable.
Ellen Margrethe Michelsdatter died in Urlev in 1786. She was buried in the
churchyard on March 24.
